When Caitlyn settles down in a city, she falls for Alex, a Normal (someone without Paranormal powers), which is dangerous because he can turn her in. And she discovers renegade Paranormals who want to destroy all Normals. Caitlyn must decide whether she's going to stay in hiding to protect herself, or take a stand to save the world.

Topic - How did you feel in writing the different scenes in Hunted?(if character was feeling emotion, were you emotional too)

Cheryl's Response:
When I write, I pour myself into the characters and the page. I weave bits of my memories and emotions and emotional truths into the fiction, and I draw on my abuse and trauma experience to write. I often feel what my characters are feeling when I'm writing about them, especially the main characters--how they feel in their body, the emotions, their mind--since I'm trying to make it as authentic as I can, something that will resonate with readers. And I put a lot of myself into my main characters, especially, so I really identify with them as I write.

The high level of tension in my books is something I felt most of my life. I used to run on fear and adrenaline (I'm an incest and ritual abuse survivor), so much so that my body vibrated on the inside all the time. I don't live at that high level of tension all the time any more, but it's easy for me to go there, or to remember what it felt like, when I write.

I'm an emotional person, and I draw on my emotions when I write. I used to be hyper aware of other people's emotional responses--I needed to be to try to figure out what my abusers would do--and I'm still often aware of it in people. For me it used to tell me what was safe or what was threatening. So, often when I write my first drafts, they're full of the emotion of the characters, but I've left out the world around them--their surroundings, the weather, what they see and touch and taste--and I have to go back in edits and fill that in. I've learned to trust my process, and to work the way I need to. That's something I love about writing--that you can go back and edit and re-edit your work until it feels right.

Extras!

--Some AMAZING blurs about Hunted--

I got an amazing blurb from Adele Griffin:
"Spellbound by this one! HUNTED’s got my vote for the sharpest, most thought-provoking fantasy I’ve read in a long time. It’s hard not to fall in love with resilient, defiant Caitlyn, whose voice is as tough as it is pure.
Vividly realized and tightly wound, HUNTED builds tension on the edge of a knife. Its cut-glass style will hook you, and its brave and provocative themes are sure to stir up both emotions and conversation."
-Adele Griffin, Author of Where I Want to Be, National Book Award finalist, Kirkus Best Book, ALA Best Book

And a wonderful blurb from Pam Bachorz:
“In this suspenseful parable of prejudice and oppression, Rainfield creates unique, appealing characters we root for until the satisfying end.”
–Pam Bachorz, author of Candor, 2011 YALSA Popular Paperback

and one from Cinda Williams Chima as well!
“With its eerily contemporary themes, Hunted will set your pulse to pounding as Caitlyn, struggles to cling to a faith in the basic goodness of humankind in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.”
--Cinda Williams Chima, The Demon King, A VOYA Perfect Ten, VOYA's Best Science Fiction, 2011 ALA Best Fiction for Young Adults list.
